Senior Director - Corporate Affairs

Senior Director - Corporate Affairs, works directly with the EVP, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Chief Compliance Officer & Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, is responsible for providing strategic thought leadership, direction and execution regarding corporate affairs matters, including, but not limited to (1) corporate reputation; (2) corporate communications; (3) community engagement; and (4) corporate sustainability. The leader in this role serves as a key strategic business partner to the Senior Leadership Team and others across the Company to establish and maintain relationships with, and the company’s reputation among, a wide range of external audiences and to provide leadership in developing a cohesive tone and messaging around the company’s mission, values and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Corporate Reputation

·  Provide leadership in cross-functional efforts to develop cohesive tone and messaging regarding

     the company’s mission and strategic objectives

·  Coordinate with Internal Communications Team to provide content on community engagement,

     charitable giving and corporate sustainability matters and lead strategies for and develop

     content for internal communications from the Senior Leadership Team

·  Cultivate and manage the company’s relationships with and involvement in trade associations,

     chambers of commerce, coalitions, etc.

Corporate Communications

·  Develop external communications strategies and serve as primary point of contact for media

·  Develop executive remarks, press releases, talking points, briefing documents, Q&As, social

     media content, and other materials as needed for company news

·  Create clear, concise and consistent messaging and positioning for the company, including to

     help shape the narrative around the rent-to-own industry

·  Develop and maintain crisis communications plan

·  Raise the profile of key executives by driving thought leadership content, speaking

     opportunities, engagement with professional or trade associations, etc.

·  Prepare company spokespeople for media interview or calls with reporters

·  Monitor media reports regarding the company, the rent-to-own industry, key competitors and

     other relevant entities, and provide advice and updates to the Senior Leadership Team

Community Engagement

·  Manage the company’s corporate giving and community engagement activities (i.e., the Aaron’s

     Gives program)

·  Develop strategies for community engagement that enhance the corporate brand image and

     increase team member engagement

·  Establish relationships with and serve as primary contact for charitable organizations in

     connection with donations, volunteerism, internships, etc.

·  Vet charitable organizations to consider for corporate engagement

Corporate Sustainability

·  Lead coordination of efforts pertaining to corporate sustainability and the company’s

     environmental, social and governance program

·  Coordinate with Government Relations Team and Investor Relations Team to enhance political
transparency reporting

Education and Experience:

·  A Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, business or a

     related field

·  10+ years of experience in community affairs, communications or public relations

·  5+ years of experience leading others (either through direct leadership or through leading

     matrixed teams in an organization)

·  Experience working with a high-profile brand and/or well-respected public relations firm


·  Experience working in a public company or representing a public company client preferred

·  Experience in D&I communications and crisis communications preferred

·  Strong track record of pitching and securing well-placed media stories with a deep

     understanding of the media landscape

·  Experience developing and implementing high impact communications initiatives at scale with

     measurable results

·  Proven ability to amplify an organization’s corporate reputation and key initiatives through

     consistency, medium, and frequency of messaging

Necessary Skills:

·  Excellent analytical, presentation and communications skills with the ability to reach all levels of

     the organization

·  Strong executive presence with the proven ability to counsel, influence and collaborate with

     business leaders and other key stakeholders

·  Ability to work with diverse groups to build relationships, openly share knowledge, and

     effectively collaborate

·  Ability to handle multiple projects with critical deadlines

·  Highly organized with keen attention to detail, responsive, and adept at prioritizing in the face

     of competing requests

·  Travel up to 10%
