Summary:
This position is responsible for managing the company’s government relations activities through advocating for, identifying, and monitoring legislation and regulatory developments of greatest relevance to The Aaron’s Company, Inc., and its lines of business. This position will report to the Vice President, Corporate Affairs and will also work with the General Counsel & Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, other members of the Corporate Affairs team, and leaders across the company to enhance the company’s reputation among and relationships with a wide range of government audiences at the federal, state, and local level. This position will also contribute to the efforts of the Corporate Affairs team to develop a cohesive tone and messaging around the company’s mission, values, and activities for all internal and external stakeholders. This position can be based out of the Washington, D.C. area (remote) or near the company’s headquarters in Atlanta, GA (in office or remote hybrid).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Relationship Development
·Build the company’s professional relationships with government officials and community leaders at the federal, state, and local level
oDevelop and lead government relations strategies
oManage lobbyists and consultants
oRepresent the company in interactions with government officials and their staff
oCoordinate outreach with key stakeholders
·Build and support the company’s relationships with trade associations, chambers of commerce and other professional organizations
Public Policy & Legislative Activity
·Advise the VP, Corporate Affairs, the General Counsel, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team on public policy matters and strategies and tactics for advocating for the company, our customers, our team members, and the communities we serve
·Track and, in collaboration with the Legal Team, analyze actual or proposed legislation or regulations that would impact our business
·Track and, in collaboration with the Legal Team, analyze regulatory enforcement actions in the lease-to-own and retail industries
·Prepare regular updates to the Senior Leadership Team and other company leaders regarding legislative and regulatory activity impacting our business
Political Contributions
·Develop and implement strategy for political giving
·Manage activities pertaining to the company’s political action committee, including ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and preparing an annual political transparency report
·Manage budgets for the political action committee and for corporate contributions
Education and Experience:
·Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in communications, public relations, English, business, or a related field
·Minimum 4-5 years of related experience either in government or in corporate government relations position
·A thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory processes; a proven track record of advocacy; and current relationships with elected officials and policy makers
Necessary Skills:
·Strong analytical, presentation and written and oral communications skills
·Strong executive presence with the proven ability to counsel, influence and collaborate with business leaders and other key stakeholders
·Ability to work with diverse groups to build relationships, openly share knowledge, and effectively collaborate
·Ability to handle multiple projects with critical deadlines
